For more than two decades, Martin has devoted his career to providing insight and personalized advice to the families that have honored him with their trust. With the launch of RiceBarrett, Martin significantly expands his ability to deliver guidance in diverse financial arenas of specific interest such as Retirement Asset Planning, among others, and to leverage more abundant opportunities for his thirst for learning, both personally and with clients. He is deeply committed to forging strong, enduring relationships with the families he serves throughout the United States.
Before co-founding RiceBarrett, Martin enjoyed a successful and intellectually fulfilling 20-year career at Merrill Lynch working with clients and their families. He joined the firm’s Professional Development Program for Financial Consultants in 1998 and completed the Series 7 and Series 66 regulatory exams, as well as the insurance licensing requirements. After these basics, Martin continued aggressively training and completed the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ designation in 2001 as well as the Certified Investment Management Analyst® designation in 2005.
Martin’s unique background includes 10 years in agribusiness, sales, marketing, and management. He was a senior member of CIBA Geigy’s sales management leadership team until the firm’s 1996 merger with Switzerland-based Sandoz prompted him to pursue his passion for working directly with individuals and families. He had been recruited to join CIBA Geigy’s Seed Division, where he helped launch the market’s first genetically modified corn product a year ahead of major industry competitors. Prior to that, Martin worked in sales at IBP, Inc., the largest meatpacker in beef and pork in the world at the time. His background also includes trading floor experience at the Chicago Mercantile Exchange.
Martin earned an M.S. in agricultural economics from Purdue University and a B.S. in agricultural business from Middle Tennessee State University. Martin is also an active pilot holding a Commercial Certificate and a variety of ratings and endorsements. He enjoys upland hunting and fresh-water big game fishing as well as serving in leadership roles for various nonprofit organizations. Martin lives in Zionsville, Indiana with his wife, Jolene, and their two children.
